It Comes From Within!
“It comes from within!” This is what I told myself over the past ten years of my life. I learned that no one is going to achieve your goals for you.
Growing up through high school I was relatively in shape. I stayed active playing baseball and playing with sports with friends. We practiced every day, and had games throughout each week. If I was not playing ball you could find me on the field playing something else…
Baseball kept getting easier, then High school and girls really started. Varsity Freshman year, sweeeeet! Varsity starter, sophomore year… I was lovin’ it! Girlfriend my junior year, which ended in a rough break up… and that’s when it all started going downhill.
I lost myself. I was young, depressed and didn’t know better. I needed to do something, but didn’t know it yet. My grades dropped, eating made me happy, the fields seemed to feel hotter than normal because of the weight gain, so I stopped going.
My grades dropped below the 2.0 threshold needed to play ball. While I wasn’t playing ball anymore, I kept up with the same eating habits that I had while still very active. But now, it was no secret.
McDonalds for breakfast, Burger King for lunch, partying with friends at night. Sleeping in until noon became a normal thing for me. Skipping classes to avoid seeing my ex-girlfriend.
Through all this and the downward spiral, which I can say was very real.
Was Seen by Many, But Only Pointed Out by One.
My ex-girlfriend walked up to me during school and said,
“Alan, you’ve gotten really fat.” Just as you would imagine a 16-year-old girl would say it.
It doesn’t feel good to be called fat.
I went home that night and did some research. I found a quote that changed my life forever.
We all must suffer one of two things:
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret.
I was not about to regret my life.
