What is a Sports Chiropractor?
A Sports Chiropractor works with clients or patients with a goal of improving their performance in their respective sport. Most Sport Chiropractors practice general chiropractic, which means they only adjust where the pain is located and provide therapy just as a physical therapist would, or athletic trainer.
Is Sports Chiropractic the same as Specific Chiropractic?
Short answer no. Specific Chiropractic focuses re balancing the athletes/ patients spine, shoulders, hips, and ankles by correcting the primary cause first. Once re balanced (usually within a couple visits) most athletes begin to walk straighter, perform stronger, with better stamina, focus, and efficiency. Athletes see Specific Chiropractic doctors when they need to be "fine tuned" and get to the next level of their ability. They also see Specific Chiropractic doctors when they have had chronic aches, pain, or discomfort without help from traditional sports and general chiropractors or physical therapist. It is highly recommended that most athletes receive Specific Chiropractic care by qualified practitioners in their off season to retrain their newly balanced body to build a more solid foundation.
Can Specific Chiropractic work with Sports Chiropractors?
Yes, and we often work well together. Most sports chiropractors spend 90% of their treatment time on physical therapy, nutrition, and massage. If you choose to combine the two types of Chiropractic, there must be a clear cut understanding of what the Sports Chiropractor is doing to your body versus what the Specific Chiropractor is doing. It is unwise to receive two type of adjustments by two different practitioners. Communication among the doctors and patients is mandatory.
Can Specific Chiropractic help me improve without any other type of Chiropractic?
Short answer, yes! Think about it this way, if your spine, shoulders, hips, and ankles are off balanced, it is never okay! Specific Chiropractic helps with that issue. Sports Chiropractic helps mainly if you have a specific injury that needs rehabilitation as in physical therapy.
